This article offers a comparative reading of Humboldtian science writing through the lens César Aira's surrealist avant-garde aesthetics and vice versa. It reads way Aira dramatizes painter Johann Moritz Rugendas as reflection on scientific order knowledge that still shapes our world-view today. In his paintings, Pampas emerges major agent, resisting appropriation either empirical-aesthetic landscape or tabula rasa for human creativity. narrative refutes Humboldt's typology while affirming it transcendental operation facilitates critique Argentine national mythopoesis proto-ecological global reflexivity.
